BASF Corporation — Plants in Mississippi
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that they were exposed to asbestos while working at BASF Corporation plants in Mississippi. This page documents the Mississippi portion of BASF Corporation’s multi-state operations. For the full corporate summary and plants in other states, see the BASF Corporation manufacturer page.
Premises Description
BASF Corporation is the U.S. arm of the German chemical conglomerate BASF, headquartered globally at Ludwigshafen. In the United States, BASF operates and has historically operated major chemical manufacturing complexes including the Wyandotte, Michigan works (acquired via Wyandotte Chemicals), the Freeport, Texas site on the Gulf Coast, and the Geismar, Louisiana complex along the Mississippi River chemical corridor, in addition to numerous smaller specialty and coatings plants.
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that BASF and its U.S. predecessors used asbestos pipe covering, block insulation, refractory linings, and asbestos-containing gaskets and packing throughout process piping, reactors, distillation columns, boilers, deaerators, and heat exchangers at these U.S. chemical plants. Workers alleged exposure during original construction, day-to-day maintenance, unit turnarounds, and equipment tear-out spanning the mid-twentieth century through the 1980s.
Workers Exposed
- BASF chemical operators and maintenance mechanics at Wyandotte MI, Freeport TX, and Geismar LA plants
- Pipefitters and steamfitters who installed and serviced steam, process, and utility piping insulated with asbestos block and pipe covering
- Insulators who applied and tore out asbestos pipe covering, block, and cement on reactors, columns, and piping
- Millwrights and boilermakers who worked on BASF boilers, deaerators, heat exchangers, and reactors during turnarounds
- Refractory workers and bricklayers who installed and demolished asbestos refractory linings on BASF furnaces and process heaters
- Contractor employees on BASF construction and turnaround projects
If You Worked at a BASF Chemical Plant
If you or a family member worked at a BASF Corporation chemical plant — including Wyandotte Michigan, Freeport Texas, Geismar Louisiana, or another BASF U.S. facility — or worked as a contractor on BASF projects, and were later diagnosed with mesothelioma, lung cancer, or asbestosis, you may have a claim.
